As the seasons change and things start to slow down, Buffalo Gap Retreat is preparing for a long winter nap. Before we close for the season, we’d like to invite folks to join us for a day of activities that showcase the best of the Buffalo Gap Retreat camp experience.

Wood Fired Sauna

Relax and unwind in our traditional wood-fired sauna. Built in 1985 by master carpenter Peter Gott, the sauna is a popular amenity at Buffalo Gap Retreat. It will be set up for participants to relax in the morning and/or evening.

Guided Nature Hike

Herbalist, self-described “swamp-hag”, and general friend-of-camp, Lindsay Smyers,  will be leading a nature hike with a focus on edible plants. Come enjoy the changing colors of Autumn and gain some useful knowledge in the process.

Pine Needle Basket Class

Utilizing materials foraged in the morning nature hike, Lindsay will offer an afternoon class teaching the art of basket making with pine needles.

End of Season Buffet

An informal celebration of our end of season will take place at our Lakeview Cafe. A buffet will be served, created by our own Chef Dave.

Evening Campfire

Hang out and warm up at the campfire. Chocolate, marshmallows, and graham crackers will be on hand for anyone who wants to make s’mores.

Scary Movie Night

To close out the day, we will be screening the horror movie, Getaway at the cafe. Created by students at Shenandoah University, the movie was filmed on-site at Buffalo Gap Retreat. Feel free to come in costume if so inclined!

If you’ve been curious about Buffalo Gap Retreat, or are a long-time friend of the camp, this is a great opportunity to come and enjoy the day with us.
